Run for us?

Believe it or not… Cancer patients spend a lot of time running!!!

Running between treatments, running from pain, running from emotional and social distress and running towards support, comfort and care.

As an official beneficiary of “The Ultimate Human Race”, we are always looking for people to run for the benefit of our patients.  You need not be a Comrades runner to make a difference, we simply need you to put your hand up.  Even if it is only to walk 5km as part of a team for our patients this year?  Dress in pink and join our army of support at all and any of the events…

We have three options where you can use your healthy body to support our patients:  Read more below:

The Comrades Marathon (9th June)

The Big Daddy, the King Kong of running in South Africa.  Are you a Comrades runner?  Read how you can make it a special event for you and our patients When you register all you need to do is nominate Hospice as your benefiting NPO.  We benefit from the nomination alone but you will also then have a profile in which you are able to raise funds.  These funds boost your experience on the day as you run your tribute to a lost loved one or a current cancer patient you are supporting.  For more on how to do this all follow our Comrades instructions here

The ECR Big Walk with Mark (19th May)

Mark Charlesworth is training to walk the East Coast Radio 5 KM “Big Walk”, seemingly impossible physical challenge for someone with an incomplete spinal cord injury.  After a freak accident, Mark was classified as a quadriplegic and the doctors said I would never be able to move again from the neck down as my spinal cord. Mark has gained back some function over the years in both my arms and legs I cannot stand up without using my arms to push myself upright and I use a frame to walk with.

Mark has set himself a personal challenge of completing the East Coast Radio 5 KM “Big Walk”  and turned it into a charity event to try and create awareness for people with disabilities and hopefully, raise money for 5 very worthy charities, Highway Hospice, QuadPara SA, St Giles Durban, The Chris Burger / Petro Jackson players fund and Vema Paramedics.

If you would like to join Mark on the day of the race being the 19th May 2019 or be involved in any way to support or assist us please contact Mark via email at or telephone me on 082 440 4215 for more information.  He is also on Facebook (Mark Charlesworth) and Twitter @OneStepBeyondSA.
