At the recent prize giving at South Africa’s oldest classic cycle race (Amashova) they paid tribute to those who cycled the fastest. They honored the athletes for their dedication, their training and their performance on the day. Wow, incredible to see the top cyclists in our country in action, and to see them receive their prized medals and prizes. It is truly incredible what the human body is capable of, especially when combined with the high tech of the bikes these days.
More importantly, at this same prize giving there was also a tribute to a special team of hero’s. Those that are not as fast, but who have used their time to achieve a win within their hearts. Those that chose to enjoy the day, and to impact positively on those who are not able to do it for themselves. “How do YOU want to be remembered” is the motto of, “Hero’s 4 Hospice” under which these guys rode their race. Having collected an amount of R55,000 for patient care they simply rode their race to have fun, to celebrate their achievement, and with fellowship in mind. It is an incredible feeling to be able to give, and it is hard-wired into us as human beings. These guys certainly raised their hands for those who can’t. Having started with a target of R30,000, they smashed this goal and have made a massive impact in the quality of life for our patients.
We are so grateful for the support, in fact we are blown away by the achievement. A huge thanks for each and every one of you, as well as the sponsors who assisted the team. You are real Hero’s who hopefully have inspired more groups to follow your example of being authentically human?
